Deborah Cox has already proven that she’s “supposed to be here” and her native Canada clearly knows it too.
The legendary R&B singer is set to make history this year, becoming the first Black woman inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The Grammy-winning Toronto native is set to be inducted at the 51st Annual JUNO Awards, an awards ceremony put on by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
The “Where Do We Go From Here” songstress has been celebrating the news, which was announced Tuesday (March 29).
“I feel incredibly grateful to experience this milestone moment,” the singer said in a statement to Billboard, adding, “To be the first Black female inductee, I am honored to have the chance to show our younger generations that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to with hard work, dedication, and passion.”
Still smiling from ear to ear…😃. Overwhelmed by this honor. God is great’. Thanks everyone 💋🥂🍾

CARAS President Allan Reid hailed the impact of the 47-year-old who began her career as a background singer for Celine Dion.
“Deborah is a multi-dimensional artist who has been entertaining and captivating audiences around the world for over 25 years,” Reid said, according to the outlet. “Her resounding voice and powerful performances have made her an international icon.”
The 2022 JUNO Awards are scheduled to take place on May 15. Cox won her first JUNO award in 1996, snagging three of eight nominations that year.
