Nike filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Brooklyn-based company MSCHF for selling customized Air Max 97’s being marketed as ‘Satan shoes.’
The customized shoes, advertised as having “human blood in the sole,” were a collaboration between MSCHF with rapper Lil Nas X recently released a new single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”
The shoes were limited to 666 pairs and sold out shortly after going on sale Monday morning.
A Nike spokesperson tells KATU News that the shoe brand, headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, has filed a trademark infringement and dilution complaint against MSCHF related to the so-called ‘Satan shoes,’ because the shoes could cause confusion and end up being associated with their brand.
The spokesperson went on to say that Nike does not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF.
The Satan shoes were produced without Nike’s approval or authorization, and Nike is in no way connected with this project,” the company said.
Lil Nas X has acknowledged the Nike lawsuit on Twitter.
